2011 Fall Hunger and Food Security Awards

Hunger & Food Security Fund: United Way of Tompkins County continues to document an increased demand for food and personal care items and is focusing its efforts on addressing the many complex food and hunger issues. UWTC is working to support programming to make an impact to improve the quality of life of area residents. All local nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply for Hunger and Food Security Funds. As indicated by community conditions, UWTC has established Fall and Spring, Hunger & Food Security grant cycles.

A total of $29,900 was awarded to the following programs:

The Learning Web: $4,000
Youth Outreach Program Emergency Food Supply

Tompkins Community Action: $4,000
Emergency Food Pantry

Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga: $10,300
Samaritan Center Personal Needs Products
 
Community dinner at Dryden United Methodist Church: $1,100
Community Dinner at DUMC

Food Bank of the Southern Tier: $4,500
Mobile Food Pantry Expansion

Loaves and Fishes: $6,000
Free Meal Program 
 
Each program meets several UWTC funding criteria: addresses identified community conditions, identifies targeted populations, demonstrates clear administrative and financial management, identifies goals and objectives, shows evidence of formal partnerships or collaborations with other organizations and demonstrates community impact.
