2011 T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund Awards

T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund: This fund was established to honor T. Merrell Shipherd, former Director of United Way of Tompkins County, who, throughout his life, worked to bring people together to find effective solutions to community challenges. The purpose of this funding is to provide financial support to quality programming and services, to address current, new or emerging needs in the community, to support efforts to improve organizational efficiency and encourage collaborations such as mergers and service delivery joint ventures.

A total of  $42,730 was awarded  to the following initiatives:

HSC - 211: $6,000
Alternatives Federal Credit Union ($4,000 for staff), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/2-1-1 Tompkins Partnership ($2,000 for screening and scheduling)

Finger Lakes Independence Center: $4,000
Asset Development: Assisting Individuals with Disabilities to Realize the American Dream
 
Alcohol & Drug Council of Tompkins County: $3,430
Organizational Capacity Building Project
           
The Learning Web: $4,800
Transforming Trauma into Tools for Growth
 
Southside Community Center: $3,000
Southside Exercise/Recreation

OAR - Opportunities, Alternatives and Resources: $8,000
Transition Two Program
 
Franziska Racker Centers: ($8,000 this year with remaining $17,000 payable over two years)
“Making Room” Capital Campaign

The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County: $5,500
Education Department

United Way Member organizations are eligible to apply for Flexible Funds. Non-United Way Member organizations may apply in partnership/collaboration with United Way of Tompkins County Member Organizations.
