How We LIVE UNITED

Ithaca College Student United Way

2010 Ithaca College Stone Soup Volunteers“As students up on South Hill, we find ourselves spending the duration of our college careers casually accepting every advantage this community offers to us – from our countless resources at Ithaca College, to the amenities of Downtown Ithaca and Cornell, to our connections with other students, faculty, and town residents.  Too often we become comfortable with this one-way relationship and do not do all that we can to give back.

In creating the Ithaca College Student United Way, we have found a unique way to build bridges between the IC campus and the greater Ithaca community. The goal of this student-run program is to work in partnership with United Way of Tompkins County to generate money through event sponsorship, campus alliances, and our connection with the Ithaca College faculty United Way fundraising campaign. Once funds have been collected, we review applications from local Ithaca non-profits and allocate monetary grants to those in need. We strongly believe that through the combined efforts of IC students and faculty, we can make a larger impact on the community.  Last year we were pleased to allocate $3,000 to fund new programs at worthy Tompkins County organizations that are truly making a difference. This is our way of giving back. This is how we LIVE UNITED.”
