Stephen E. Garner Summers of Service- 2020 Internship Opportunities

The Summers of Service Program provides paid summer internships of $1,600 each for Tompkins County high school students. Internships will give high school students (first priority to students their junior or senior year) the opportunity to learn about the health and human services sector in Tompkins County. 2020 Summer of Services Internship Opportunities 

 
The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County- Youth Education Intern
Downtown Ithaca/ Possible Remote Work
20 Hrs. /Week for 6 Weeks (July 6- August 14)
 
The Youth Education Intern will assist Advocacy Center staff in a review of healthy realationships/abuse prevention curriculum for students. The intern will also be responsible of the creation of toolkits for community/home based learning opprotunties, acting as a near peer mentor for middle schoolers participating in the Gaia Circle Program, and assisting in the creation of a teen event to be held in the summer. 
 

 
 
Ithaca Community Childcare Center - Summer Camp Assistant
579 Warren Rd, Ithaca, NY 
9-12 Hrs. /Week for 10 Weeks (July 13 - August  30)
 
The Summer Camp Assistant will support camp staff in facilitating outdoor summer program activities including group games, field trips, providing daily care and maintaining the safety of children 4-12 years old in our care. This includes engaging with students, keeping a watchful eye and attending to participants safety, applying sunscreen, helping to prepare nutrional meals and snacks, and assisting in the set up and clean up of activity areas. 

 

Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources (OAR) of Tompkins County - Office Assistant 

910 West State Street, Ithaca, NY 
15 Hrs. /Week for 8 Weeks  (July 1- August 30)
 
The Office Assistant will be expected to do general office tasks such as stuffing envelopes, filing, making copies, data entry, and straightening up of the client drop in center. The Assistant's main task will be working the phone relay between inmates and their loved ones.

 

Southworth Library Association - Summer Library Aide and Virtual Assistant
24 West Main Street, Dryden, NY 
20 Hrs. /Week for 8 Weeks (July 1 - August  30)
 
The Library Aide will support the Summer Reading programs through assisting with publicity, marketing, record keeping, and preparation for program activities. The Aide will also assist with managing the Summer Lunches program and other library functions. The Summer Library Aide and Virtual Assistant will assist with the planning, preparation and implementation of the Library Summer Reading programs for children in preschool through 8th grade. The Aide and Virtual Assistant will help to prepare kits or packets for students, administer and monitor the online reading program and the in-house program (should we be able to have one). They will also assist with social media events and presentation for the programs.

 

Village of Groton - Office Assistant 

143 Cortland Street, Groton, NY
20 Hrs. /Week for 8 Weeks (Flexible)
 
The Assistant will be responsible for various records management initiatives including, scanning files utilizing Tompkins County Laserfiche program. In addition, the Assistant will be responsible for identifying the retention of documents and creating storage files. The Assistant will have opportunity to learn about multiple types of government documents and may be invited to attend committee and board meetings.

 
 
Village of Groton - Beautification Assistant
143 Cortland Street, Groton, NY
20 Hrs. /Week for 8 Weeks (Flexible)
 
The assistant will work with the beautification coordinator and office staff on communication with volunteer gardeners, taking before, during and after photos of community gardens throughout the Village.
They will help to organize a spreadsheet of volunteer hours, reimbursements and other items.  They will work on landscaping and gardening on Village lots and help make decisions on plant types and layouts.
Prior gardening experience and use of Microsoft Excel and Word helpful, but not required.

 

Women's Opportunity Center - Mentor Retail Trainer Sales Associate

315 North Tioga Street, Ithaca, NY 
20 Hrs. /Week for 8 Weeks (July 1 - August  30)
 
The Mentor Retail Trainer Sales Associate will assist with day to day operations at the retail training center which is called Mary Durham Boutique. In addition, they will assist the Retail Training Coordinator/ Store Manager in facilitating retail training courses in a classroom setting and through hands-on training. 

 
 
YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County - Youth Development Counselor

20 Hrs. /Week for 7 Weeks (July 13 - August  30)
