Cal’s Why:
We all have gifts, talents and abilities, and I believe we should blossom where we’re planted! I believe strongly in engaged community, and that all of us can serve. My philosophies are summed up as follows:
• “In a real sense, all of life in inter-related. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” -Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
• “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” - Edward Everett Hale
• Nothing will ever attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome! -Samuel Johnson
Causes Important to Cal:
• Making “equal justice under law” a reality for all, not a symbolic aspiration
• Youth personal development along with academic achievement
• Civic engagement through higher levels of voting and other forms of active participation in the democratic process
• Initiatives to stimulate and support micro-enterprise
